Stress Awareness Month 2024: Join our Themed Chatrooms
Join us this April for themed chatrooms to mark Stress Awareness Month. A space for anyone affected by gambling harms to talk about stress and stress management.
Our 2022-23 Annual Report found that 80% of people calling our National Gambling Helpline or attending our treatment sessions reported anxiety or stress as an impact of gambling – higher than any other impact listed.
The theme for this year’s Stress Awareness Month is #LittleByLittle, recognising the effect small, consistent positive actions can have on your wellbeing.
The Stress Management Society recommends adopting manageable adjustments to your daily routine that can lead to significant mental health improvements over time, including prioritising sleep, exercising, or reaching out and connecting with your support network.
Our series of themed chatroom sessions during Stress Awareness Month are open to anyone and cover a range of different themes and discussions, including:
What is Stress?
- Themed Chatroom: Wellbeing – Tuesday 9th April, 6pm-7pm
- Lived Experience Guests – Thursday 11th April, 6pm-7pm
Stress and Gambling Related Harms
- Family and Friends Affected by Gambling Related Harms – Tuesday 16th April, 12pm-1pm
- Lived Experience Guests – Thursday 18th April, 6pm-7pm
- Family and Friends Affected by Gambling Related Harms – Thursday 18th April, 7pm-8pm
Managing Stress
We encourage those accessing our dedicated peer support spaces to chat about their mental health, the role of stress in their life, managing stress and gambling-related harms during Stress Awareness Month.
Join our chatrooms here.
Our forum will also be running a series of weekly topic threads to correspond with these three central themes.
Interested in supporting our chatrooms?
We are currently recruiting for Online Peer Supporters to provide one-to-one and group support to both individuals who gamble and those affected by someone else’s gambling. Using their own experience of gambling-related harms, volunteers will support others digitally as part of our Online Support Services and will include email support as well as facilitating our forum and chatrooms.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided to enable you to use your lived experience to work with our team as an Online Peer Supporter, providing support to all of those affected by gambling.
Find out more and how to apply here.
If you need support right now, our National Gambling Helpline is available 24/7. Talk to one of our trained Advisers for free and confidentially on the phone or via live chat.
