GamCare Appoints New Deputy Chief Executive Officer
The gambling support charity GamCare is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Deputy CEO, Mark Weiss, who will be taking on this new role alongside his current position as Director of Communications and External Affairs.
Mark brings with him over a decade of experience in health policy and communications roles. Prior to joining GamCare in May 2022, he spearheaded all aspects of Policy and Public Affairs for the UK’s largest hospital speciality, anaesthesia, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to this, Mark worked across the Policy and External Affairs function at the UK Faculty of Public Health for over seven years, where he helped to secure a number of significant and high-profile legislative changes and policy commitments.
Since arriving at GamCare, Mark has been instrumental in driving forward the charity’s external engagement and communications programme; and has overseen delivery of GamCare’s response to the government’s landmark Gambling White Paper, reflecting the views of our Lived Experience Community on how the Government could help make gambling safer. In his new role, Mark will work closely with Margot Daly, Executive Chair, in providing strategic leadership and direction across GamCare’s services; and will act as an ambassador for GamCare, raising our profile, and that of the people we support.
Mark Weiss, Deputy CEO of GamCare, comments: “I am delighted to take on the role of Deputy CEO. Since joining in 2022 I have seen first-hand the incredible impact that GamCare’s essential services have had in supporting people to recover from gambling harm – and in preventing those harms. As we now work through this transitional period in the future of research, prevention, and treatment, I look forward to working in close collaboration with our third sector partners, with GambleAware, the NHS, and with Government as, together, we build the next chapter of gambling support in Britain.”
Margot Daly, Executive Chair, adds: “I am pleased to welcome Mark as the charity’s new Deputy CEO. His first-hand appreciation of the profound positive impact of GamCare’s treatment services and prevention programmes underscores his commitment to the tens of thousands of people who use our services every year. As GamCare navigates the evolving landscape, Mark’s collaborative and evidenced-based approach will be instrumental in driving forward GamCare’s core mission to help those affected by gambling related harm, and to prevent further harm from emerging.”
